Description

The problem is a lack of mentors. I did research with pastors and my dad who works and volunteers at our local hospital, church, and prisons. Solutions would be to create an after school program which would take leaders in our community and pair them with students who desire to have a mentor. 10 mentors per school would be plenty I think and that would include elementary schools. Kids are facing battles such as drug abuse by peers and family members that influence them. Kids are facing violence in their community such as gang violence. Some kids are also struggling with just pure laziness. They go home and just sit and watch tv or play video games. Having mentors will help them find meaning in other areas of their lives. The action I took was to actually find a mentor for myself and then become a mentor to a younger friend I know who is in 10th Grade. I am doing an internship at my church this summer where I hope to create more opportunities for mentorship within the church.
