Description
95% of traffic in this intersection are doing illegal right turns while the traffic light is RED. This is causing issue with traffic flow and it is preventing pedestrians from crossing safely. Cars see that the light is red and that the pedestrian have the right of way to cross but ignore it and rev right through the red lights from Rte. 9N heading onto West Ave. Southbound and From West Ave. on to Church St. Eastbound. It happens at least 5 times or more per minutes from 7AM to 8PM. I am afraid someone will rush the light and hit me as I cross the street from 1 West Ave. to get to the other side of the street to catch the bus. Commercial trucks as well as passenger vehicles are doing it. There are no traffic cameras installed at this location and the cross walk lights are never functioning correctly as well. If the PS Commish is so concerned about safety on the West side of the city I don't see why he isn't dealing with this issue over the Glenmore issue. Does someone have to get killed before something happens here. The traffic lights are not organized well here. You need lights with arrows for each specific direction as drivers assume that any color or style light means they can just keep going as they please.Don't do a functionality study, just use common sense to fix the issue. I am not an engineer but I can tell you how to fix it in less than 5 minutes and I won't charge you or the city a dime.

Not that it helps, but this is a common problem everywhere. On Old 146 at RT 9 they put a sign that says, in huge letters, Stop Here On Red, with an arrow and a white line. Which means, do not turn right on red.
They probally should put up a sign that says Do Not Turn Right On Red as well, because some people tell me that only means to stop on red, then turn right, which is not correct, but people are going to turn on red, even when they know it is not legal and not safe.
Heavy ticketing at the intersection would stop it for a while, but a photo radar camera, like they use in California is what the county really should get for these problem intersections.
They would stop the problem and generate revenue and be able to pinpoint repeat offenders.
I find that the same people that break one traffic law tend to break a lot of them. It is just a mind set that the rules don't apply to them.
Just my 2 cents

The intersection at Washington (29) and West Avenue is virtually un-crossable as well because people simply don't stop on red before proceeding.
I don't even waste my time going up to the corner to cross but just jaywalk when traffic permits. I prefer playing along with the rules whether I'm walking or driving, but am not interested in being a hood ornament in any case.
